What CAN you do if you want to sell your Massachusetts house?
Top 5 ideas (originally published in Central MA Homes):
- Increase the Curb Appeal – this can mean the difference between a buyer seeing the interior of your home- or not. Most buyers do “drive-bys” before they even schedule an appointment to see a home.
- De-clutter and depersonalize! Each box of clutter is worth $800-1000 removed from the home prior to putting the house on the market.
- Make your home smell its best. No smoking in the home, no strong-smelling foods, keep after the pets. Nice (gently) scented candles or baked goods prior to a showing are good ideas.
- Take care of necessary repairs. These will be picked up during home inspection anyway, and you will likely have to adjust your pricing at that point.
- Ask a friend to walk through your home as if he or she was a buyer. What would she have you change? Or ask your agent the same thing – and make sure you follow the advice. Remember, you are trying to make your home appeal to the greatest number of buyers. It might be time to strip the toys out of the playroom and stage it as an office, for example.
