Worcester is a pretty easy trip from our area, and the traffic is usually easier to take than Boston’s. There are many great places to visit in Worcester, and one of the most fascinating is the Higgins Armory.
Exploring this museum invites imaginations to open up, whether you are a child or an adult. The collection is extensive, and there are some areas that are “hands-on.”
Through the end of the year, Higgins will allow your fantasy to really fly with the exhibit Beyond Belief: The Curious Collection of Professor Rufus Excalibur Bell. This collection claims to allow you to “explore the existence of mythical creatures and the roots of legends by Digging through our Department of Curiosities.” Fantastic!
For Vacation week, the Armory has demonstrations and workshops, and a few courses too. Depending upon how much time you have, you can spend a day learning about armor of the period, or a couple of hours getting more familiar with Viking shields. There is even an “OverKnight” on March 5 for children with a parent or guardian- this includes dinner and breakfast. Can you imagine the dreams that would inspire?
Higgins Armory Museum, 100 Barber Ave, Worcester, MA Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 10-4; Sunday 12-4. Admission- Adults $10, children $7. Under 3- free
