Mirror Lake is a kettle hole pond, similar to Walden Pond, formed by the retreating glaciers.

The lake was a frequent haunt when the kids were younger but for some reason we had not gone in a couple of years. We ended up having a lot of fun, and I was reminded why we used to go there nearly every summer day.

We would like to note that the site boasts that the beach has a full-serve concession stand – this was not in evidence when we were there, and had we known that we would have ported in some sandwiches. It is a little walk to get from parking to the beach – maybe 1/8 of a mile downhill on the way in (uphill with tired children on the way out).

Directions:

Route 2 West to exit 37B. If heading east on Route 2, then exit 37.
Head nrth down Jackson Rd.
Take first rt. onto Patton Rd. Go straight .8 mi

Parking lot is on your right!

LEOMINSTER – Fallbrook Elementary School will host its Family Fun Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at the school, 25 Decicco Drive.

The fair will feature carnival games, entertainment, raffles, prizes, and food including favorites from the Outback Steakhouse and Athen’s Pizza and Family Restaurant of Central Street.

Don’t miss special guests from Star Wars!

Leominster area home sales statistics

The National Association of Realtors recently released their national and regional summary of home sales statistics.
You can read their report above. Essentially what they conclude is that, based on what they are looking at, the market is getting close to a plateau. That, I think, would make everyone happy.
It is great to speak in generalization- in other words, about the whole country- but it means more to the local buyer or seller to read about local information. How can you make the most important decision of your life without the best information guiding you?
Here are local stats for you based on data that we took from our MLS (deemed reliable but not guaranteed, according to them).

As you can see, home prices in most areas are at or below where they were in 2003. Number of units sold is far below the peak reached in the mid-decade, but in most cases better than the year just prior.

Thanksgiving is nearly here

The holiday season is here, and we are all making preparations for being with friends and family as Thanksgiving and Christmas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah approach. Check out the town calendar – note that the Elks have a weekly blood drive on Tuesdays from 1-7.

Want to make an interesting day trip? At the Museum of Science in Boston, you might want to check out Harry Potter: the Exhibit , which will be in Boston through February 21.

A little farther afield is the Santa Express in NH, a magical train ride in the White Mountain area. Looking for some winter magic closer to home? More details will be coming about the Festival of Trees and the Holiday Walk in Leominster. As Mayor Dean Mazzarella said in the Leominster Champion, “Our theme this year is An Old Fashioned Christmas.
