We love day-tripping to Massachusetts beaches in summer. There are so many area places to enjoy out of doors when the weather is nice like this. The kids love Hampton Beach (NH, but not much of a drive unless traffic is bad) and the Cape (not the easiest place to get to). But there are little unsung swimming spots all over the state.

When we were kids, Plum Island was a favorite destination. It was relatively quiet, and so beautiful. Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester has seen a lot of us over the summers – it is truly beautiful there.

Church’s beach, Cuttyhunk Island, Massachusetts- Hitch a ride on a golf cart to the Cuttyhunk Yacht Club and then follow the sand road (pick a few wildflowers along the way) to Church’s Beach. This west-facing strand is great for late-day rays and sunsets. Gentle waves make for good swimming.

We have spent several wonderful summers exploring the Massachusetts State Park System on very short money – the price of a summer membership is $35 per year for MA residents.

Or check out this trail journal – we go swimming in the Squannacook (although we set down in a different spot) and can vouch for how fun the rope swing is.

Trying to come up with ideas for the Holidays. There are a lot of things to do in the area, and I am going to post links to things that you can drive to to keep you or the kids busy and happy this season.

This one is coming up soon: this weekend in fact, but looks like a must-see. At the Ecotarium, visit with the Polar Bears and hear the Polar Express.

Nutcracker Baller Performances
Take the train in and see the Stone Zoo Zoolights through the end of the year.
Plan on going to First Night Boston. which is really an All-Day event.
A winter concert will be performed by the Lexington Pops in January.
Want something to do with the kids over the break? Why not the Discovery Museums, the DeCordova Art Museum (several events), or check out the suits or armor at the Higgins Armory, where they have fun planned for vacation week.
