The fact that the commuter rail from Boston goes straight through to Fitchburg is a blessing for people in Ayer, Shirley, Leominster and Fitchburg who work in the city. Gas is expected to reach $3 a gallon by summer and factoring in city driving, taking the train to work is the only way to go.
You can take the commuter rail in to Boston for work, or to pick up trains out of South Station for New York City and Washington, DC (get off at Porter Square and take the Red Line to South Station). Here is a link to the schedule from Leominster/Fitchburg.
Logan International Airport is in Boston as well, and is accessible through the train/subway system, and can be reached by getting to South Station too.
